Black Friday or Black Friday which you probably see and hear all around you in the last few days is not the first time it has happened in our country. This day, in which shops and businesses put offers on their products to attract consumers to increase their purchases, started two years ago in Greece, in 2016.
But why black?
If you are still wondering, know that there are two interpretations for the name it acquired. An older one is that the word black was used to describe the heavy foot and car traffic that was happening in the US, as this Friday followed a holiday, Thanksgiving Day, so everyone was rushing to do their shopping the next day.
A second explanation is that traditionally merchants used red ink for days of loss in profits and black ink for increased sales. So, with this Friday when the Christmas markets started, the period of red ink ended and the period of black ink and profits began.
