International Women's Day: And yet we still need to celebrate it

International Women's Day: And yet we still need to celebrate it photo
International Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8, as a reminder of the achievements of women around the world. It began as a street protest in New York in 1908 by women demanding the right to vote, shorter working hours and better wages. Since then, the celebration has changed many forms and is an international event supported by many countries, governments and organizations.

Why should there be an international women's day?

In this day and age, it may seem like women have equal opportunities with men. There are women in many important positions, managers and prime ministers. However, statistics show that there is still a long way for women to achieve full equality with men. According to his research with the BBC a few years ago, in England women occupied only 30,9% of the majority of senior jobs in areas such as politics, business and policing.

So while progress has certainly been made since 1908, there is still a long way to go before we see equal numbers of men and women in important jobs, and equal pay.

I hope that in the future we can talk about the complete equality of men and women, where there will be no need to mobilize women in favor of their right to equality.
