Description

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin found in two forms: retinol and beta-carotene.
Retinol is found in foods of animal origin, with the other type of Vitamin A coming from colored fruits and vegetables.
Retinol can be used directly by the body, while beta-carotene must first be converted to retinol and then used.

Vitamin A in the form of retinol is found in cheese, eggs, fatty fish, dairy products and liver. The beta-carotene version is found in green leafy vegetables, yellow vegetables, and yellow and orange non-citrus fruits.

Many body systems depend on adequate levels of Vitamin A. It is involved in wound healing and skin reconstruction, strengthening skin epithelial cells and keratin production. Vitamin A provides eye and retinal health benefits for day and night vision. Low levels of vitamin A can cause poor vision.
