Description: Each capsule contains 100% pure propolis (180 mg) with bee pollen (20 mg), in a safflower oil base. Absolutely sealed capsule to avoid oxidation. Hypoallergenic.

PROPERTIES OF PROPOLIS

Propolis is a mixture of waxy and resinous substances that bees collect from various trees and use to seal the cracks of the hive. It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and has been used for centuries as a folk medicine. In fact, during the 16th century it was recognized in England as an official medicine.

Propolis is also used to cover the carcasses of small animals that have invaded the hive and been killed by the bees. In this way, the rotting of the corpses and the creation of pathogenic foci within the hive are avoided.

Main substances of pharmacological interest present in propolis are bioflavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, apigenin, etc.), terpenes and phenolic compounds.

Animal and in vitro studies have shown antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties of propolis. Many pathogens, including influenza and herpes viruses, as well as various bacteria and fungi are sensitive to propolis.

In a study of young schoolchildren, who were given an aqueous extract of propolis, both the frequency and intensity of episodes of acute and chronic nasopharyngitis were reduced, while a study of 10 volunteers who were given the same extract showed results against oral bacteria.

According to another study done in Cuba, propolis is more effective against yardia than a known chemical drug used for infestations by this flagellate protozoan.

Propolis also has anti-cancer properties, according to the results of at least two studies, after it prevented the development of colon cancer in rats that had been given the carcinogen azoxymethane.

Finally, propolis, due to its anti-inflammatory properties, may be useful in some cases of arthritis, while it has remarkable properties when applied topically: according to animal studies, it reduced the size of cancerous tumors by 74% when it came into direct contact with cancer cells.

Propolis applied to the gums helps fight periodontal diseases.

CONTRAINDICATIONS - PRECAUTIONS

Side effects from using propolis are relatively rare. Cases of dermatitis have been reported from topical use, while hypersensitivity reactions including rhinitis, conjunctivitis, skin rashes have been reported from internal use.

It is not recommended to use propolis in pregnant and lactating women.

PROPERTIES OF BEE POLLENΩΝ

Considered as nature's most complete food, bee pollen contains an extremely large number of nutrients, including 22 amino acids, vitamins (especially of the B complex), minerals, bioflavonoids (especially rutin), enzymes, natural antibiotics, hormones, glycosides, essential fatty acids.

Bee pollen has been known since ancient times as a wonderful food. In modern times, scientists have only recently tackled it, only to find, mainly from its chemical composition and animal studies, that the data seems to justify its reputation.

First, Soviet scientists in the 1970s and 1980s postulated that bee pollen increased endurance and improved the performance of athletes, who, in turn, attributed many of their top performances to the help of bee pollen.

The same was claimed by the Finnish runners who achieved amazing performances and won the gold medals in the 500 and 1000 meters at the Olympic Games in Munich (1972).

Another interesting property of bee pollen emerged from studies by scientists in Ohio, USA: when they gave two groups of rats for 12 weeks, the first a normal food and the second bee pollen, they found that the second group had less fat and more muscle mass at the end of the experiment. It remains to be investigated whether something similar happens in humans.

Another remarkable property of bee pollen is that it helps to treat benign prostate enlargement and prostatitis, and it can be combined with Saw Palmetto and/or Pygeum, herbs with proven action against the problems caused by benign prostate enlargement.

Bee pollen may be useful in glaucoma, due to the abundance of rutin it contains, and in treating bacterial infections, and is reputed to increase sperm count and enhance male fertility.

CONTRAINDICATIONS - PRECAUTIONS

If you are an allergic person and want to use pollen, start with 1/4 teaspoon for pollen grains and 20-50 mg for capsules. If you do not have allergic reactions, continue to slowly increase the dosage until you reach two tablespoons in granules or 500 mg in capsules.

Some people even have severe allergic reactions to pollen, but these reactions should not be associated with allergies caused by springtime pollen. A person can be allergic to pollen they breathe in, but not to pollen they take in orally, and vice versa.
