Description

Description

Natural Beta carotene derived from seaweed Dunaliella saline organically grown in salt lakes. Each capsule contains 16mg of Beta-Carotene, containing 25.000IU of vitamin A.E

PROPERTIES OF BETA CAROTENE
Beta carotene is a fat-soluble, antioxidant vitamin widely distributed in the plant world. It is also called provitamin A, because it is converted inside the body (mainly in the intestine and liver) into vitamin A (For the properties of vitamin A see below: VITAMIN A).Eit is worth noting that synthetic beta carotene does not have all the beneficial properties of natural beta carotene, while according to a research the long-term intake of synthetic beta carotene causes side effects. The body converts only as much carotene as it needs for vitamin A. So hypervitaminosis from carotene is not possible. In case of very high doses (over 200.000IU per day day) and for a long period of time, yellowing of the skin can be caused, without other consequences. The normal color of the skin returns when the overconsumption of carotene stops. The organization it can absorb only about 1/3 of the beta carotene they contain from food. If it is taken into account that only about 1/2 of this amount can be converted into vitamin A, then it is evident that only about 1/6 of the beta carotene present in food can be converted into vitamin A by the body.

  • Powerful antioxidant
  • Protects against cancer, especially prostate, stomach, lung, breast, colon cancer.
  • In combination with vitamin C, it reduces the risks of premalignant lesions, such as cervical dysplasia.
  • It protects against cardiovascular diseases.
  • A study of 330 patients showed that 50mg of beta carotene daily reduced serious cardiovascular events by 50% (Medical Tribune, 29,11,90-2)
  • It increases the number of T-cells, thus strengthening the immune system. Hence, it fights chronic and acute infections.
  • Gluten free
  • Natural product without dyes

CONTRAINDICATIONS - PRECAUTIONS
The body of diabetics, those suffering from liver diseases and those suffering from an underactive thyroid gland faces serious difficulties in converting B-Carotene into vitamin A. Therefore, carotene supplements are not recommended for those suffering from the diseases above.

REMARKS
Beta carotene may not be useful in preventing lung cancer in smokers, since a study in Finland found the curious result of initially increasing the risk of cancer in people who smoked and received high doses (over 80.000IU) of the synthetic beta carotene for 5 or 6 years. Although the risk of prostate, colon and pancreatic cancer was significantly reduced in these subjects, and the risk of lung cancer was also reduced in the years following the end of the study, we should be cautious, until more and better organized studies clarify the issue. However, it should be noted that a study conducted with natural beta carotene showed that its use could reverse cancerous changes in stomach cells, while synthetic beta carotene did not have such an effect (Yeum K et al J Amer College Nutr, 1995, 14:536, Abstract 48)It is probably a serious structural error of some studies to take for granted that the natural and the synthetic (stereoisomer) have exactly the same action (compare also lutein/zeaxanthin, two natural stereoisomers with close but far from identical properties). B-Carotene is quite sensitive to high temperatures, light and air oxygen. During the drying of fruits and vegetables in the sun it can be completely destroyed, while during the processing, preservation and cooking of the food there are significant losses. Thus, approximately 70% of the carotene is lost during frying (15 minutes), 40% during boiling (60 minutes) and 20% during freezing.
