Description: Each 1200 mg capsule contains natural soy lecithin, 60% phosphatide content.

Product without gluten and other common allergens (yeast, wheat, milk, fish, etc.).

PROPERTIES OF LECITHIN

Commercially available lecithin is mainly a mixture of fatty acids, which are combined with phosphorus and possibly other substances. The mixture is called phospholipids or phosphatides.

This mixture is dominated by phosphatidylcholine, which consists of approximately 15% choline. Thus, the properties of choline are to a significant extent properties of lecithin, and vice versa.

Lecithin that is in liquid form or in capsules contains a large percentage of oil (usually soybean oil). Granular lecithin contains much less or no oil. The lower the percentage of oil and the higher the percentage of phosphatides, the higher the quality of the lecithin.

Lecithin is a structural component of cell membranes, increasing their fluidity and participating in the process of repairing their damage.

The above shows the important role of lecithin in the prevention of serious diseases, such as liver diseases, cancer, neurological diseases, given that all the above - and not only - diseases are often related to the reduced fluidity of cell membranes and ineffective repair mechanisms of their injuries.

LIVER DISEASES

Lecithin has a beneficial effect on the liver and protects it from diseases of various causes and from the harmful effects of toxic substances.

Although lecithin's hepatoprotective properties are mainly due to the choline it contains, it should be noted that lecithin's choline (phosphatidylcholine) is better absorbed, better tolerated, and appears to have better hepatoprotective effects than plain choline.

In two studies of experimental animals (baboons) whose diet included plenty of alcohol over a long period of time, it was found that most baboons who received lecithin along with their diet did not develop cirrhosis or fibrosis of the liver, while the opposite occurred with baboons that did not receive lecithin.

In a clinical study with patients from hepatitis A and B, who were given 1800 mg of phosphatidylcholine daily, the results were encouraging, in terms of the speed of recovery of liver functions and the number of relapses.

Another double-blind clinical study in patients with chronically active hepatitis C who were given 3.000 mg of phosphatidylcholine daily showed a significant reduction in disease symptoms and, in some cases, complete disappearance of pathological histological findings.

CARDIAC DISEASES

Lecithin belongs to the substances called emulsifiers, which means that it has the ability to keep fats dissolved in water, in the form of fine droplets (emulsions).

This is of particular importance, both in the digestion of fats, and in keeping cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood in liquid form, so that the chances of them sticking to the walls of the arteries are reduced.

Another beneficial effect of lecithin on the cardiovascular system is due to its ability to reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase good cholesterol (HDL). Thus, if we want to assess its beneficial effect on the system, we should look at the improvement of the HDL/LDL ratio, and not just the reduction of LDL, which, in many cases, is insignificant.

Lecithin also helps to maintain blood carnitine at satisfactory levels. Carnitine is an amino acid essential for the proper functioning of the heart.

BAD MEMORY / ALZHEIMER

Healthy subjects with poor memory appear to be able to improve their memory with lecithin, according to empirical observations and a clinical study of healthy adults who had poor memory (Sitaram N et al, Science, July 1978, 201:274-76).

As far as Alzheimer's sufferers are concerned, no definitive results have been drawn so far, due to the limited number of studies and the conflicting results they have produced.

However, from a theoretical point of view, the beneficial effect of lecithin (or choline) on Alzheimer's patients seems plausible, since these patients have a reduced ability to synthesize and/or use acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that requires choline to be produced. .

LATE DYSKIKINESS

Tardive dyskinesia is characterized by involuntary facial muscle movements and is a fairly common side effect of antipsychotic medications. Administration of choline or lecithin can reduce muscle hyperactivity in people suffering from the condition by up to 50%, according to some studies.
