PROPERTIES OF HOLIN
Choline is necessary for the generation of nerve impulses that carry information through the nervous system. Also for the good functioning of the gall bladder and liver and for the production of lecithin by the body. It participates in the production of hormones and is necessary for the metabolism of fats and cholesterol. Its lack can cause fat accumulation in the liver and problems with brain function and memory. It has been used with beneficial effects against certain diseases of the nervous system such as Parkinson's disease.
Note: High doses (over 1.000mg) of Choline are good to be accompanied by taking calcium and vitamin C.
PROPERTIES OF INOSITOL
Inositol is necessary for fat and cholesterol metabolism, hair growth, lecithin formation. It helps prevent multiple sclerosis and remove fat from the liver. It appears to be important for brain, heart and eye function. Inositol has been used successfully as a natural sedative and natural sleep aid. In very large doses (6-12g daily) it has also been used for depression and manic depression, for severe anxiety and panic, as well as in Alzheimer's patients, to improve speech and orientation. In doses of 1.000-1.200mg inositol seems to give good results in diabetic neuropathy, relieving pain and improving nerve function. Concomitant administration of vitamin C is recommended, which appears to act by retaining inositol within nerve cells. Deficiency of inositol can lead to arteriosclerosis, high cholesterol, hair loss, skin rashes, irritability. Inositol increases the absorption of other B vitamins (especially B-12, B-1, B-2, choline) as well as vitamin C, phosphorus and linoleic acid.
CONTRAINDICATIONS - PRECAUTIONS
Those taking vasodilator drugs or cholesterol drugs should not take inositol without their doctor's knowledge, because inositol will increase the effect of these drugs. A doctor oriented towards natural remedies could accept the simultaneous intake of inositol, reducing the doses of the drugs.
PROPERTIES OF VITAMIN C
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin essential for tissue growth, adrenal function, and the support of bones, teeth and gums. Estrengthens the immune system, helps prevent/treat cancer and radiation therapy side effects, and protects against infections, toxins, environmental pollution, hepatotoxic drugs. Vitamin C plays an essential role in the synthesis of collagen and in the healing process of wounds and fractures, as well as in the synthesis of hormones that control stress. It is also necessary for the metabolism of folic acid, tyrosine and phenylalanine, while it stimulates the production of interferon. Regular intake of vitamin C seems to reduce the frequency of colds, while it has been proven to reduce their severity. It also reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) and prevents its oxidation, thus protecting against arteriosclerosis, while increasing beneficial cholesterol (HDL). Vitamin C has a mild antihypertensive effect. Smokers have a greater need for vitamin C, since they show a 200-400% increased frequency of vitamin C deficiency, compared to non-smokers (Federation Proceedings, 1984, 43, 861). Mstudy showed that the increase in blood pressure immediately after smoking was reduced by the administration of 400 mg of vitamin C (Nutr Research, 1983, 3, 653-661). Vitamin C has strong antioxidant properties and is necessary, both for fighting many diseases and preventively. A clinical study showed that men who consumed 300mg of vitamin C daily, through their diet and nutritional supplements, had a 40% reduced death rate compared to others who consumed 30mg of vitamin C daily.
