Pulse oximetry technology uses the absorption of light by hemoglobin and the pulsating pattern of blood flow in the arteries. A pulse oximeter uses a sensor that shines light of two wavelengths, red and infrared, on a part of the body that is relatively thin. and has good arterial pulsatile blood flow, usually the finger or earlobe.
