Coenzyme Q10 or ubiquinone was discovered in humans by Lamberts consultant Dr. Len Mervyn. It is a vitamin-like substance found in the mitochondria of all cells in the human body. Mitochondria are cellular organelles found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells. Their primary functional role is to produce energy from food nutrients. THE energy produce it amounts to 55% of the total amount of energy that comes from the consumption of food.
For this reason the highest levels of Q10 in the body are detected in tissues with high energy needs (such as heart muscle, muscle tissue and liver) and in tissues with rapid regenerative capacity (such as the gums).
Low levels of Q10 in the body are associated with the occurrence of periodontitis and heart disease. Obese people and people with a history of heart disease also have low levels of Q10 in the body.
CoQ10 is found in foods, especially meat, but modern storage and cooking methods destroy it. The rate of Q10 production in the body decreases with age. In fact, the lack of energy in the elderly is partly due to the low production of CoQ10 in the body.
As with all micronutrients, their absorption is of great importance, as their biological action depends on it. Lamberts Q10 is in the form of an oily suspension, a formulation recommended by the researchers who discovered the coenzyme.
