The most important representatives of Omega-3 fatty acids are two, EPA or eicosapentaenoic acid and DHA or docosahexaenoic acid. Polyunsaturated, long-chain, Omega 3 are essential fatty acids that are an integral part of cell membranes throughout the body, as a result of which they significantly affect the function of the receptors of these membranes. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are critical for normal brain function and development at all stages of life. Whereas, higher levels of EPA and/or DHA are associated with better cognitive performance.
