PROPERTIES OF PABA

Paba is essential for protein metabolism, folate production and pantothenic acid assimilation. It has antioxidant properties, while it removes fatigue from a significant percentage of people.

It restores the normal color to gray hair in lab animals, and possibly the same in humans, when gray hair is due to stress or nutritional deficiencies.

It helps to fight constipation, both because it improves the muscle tone of the stomach and intestines, and because it helps maintain a healthy intestinal flora (beneficial bacteria). It protects against sunburn and skin cancer caused by excessive exposure to the sun, either taken orally or applied topically as an ingredient in sunscreen products. However, some people are allergic to the topical use of Paba.

Paba is beneficial in scleroderma. In a clinical study 76,5% of patients experienced softer skin and improved other symptoms of the disease (Zarajonetisc et al, Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, 1988, 193-204).

It is also beneficial in vitiligo, often giving spectacular results, usually after 6 months of continuous use (Hughes C, J Am Acad of Derm, 1983, 9:770).

CONTRAINDICATIONS - PRECAUTIONS

Gastrointestinal symptoms, anorexia or anaphylaxis have been reported in relatively rare cases. Symptoms stop when Paba is stopped.

Paba should not be taken with sulphonamides (antibiotic medicines) as it may reduce their effectiveness.
