Scholl

Scholl presentation

Science at the service of the feet
Our founder, Dr William Mathias Scholl, wanted to understand the structure and biomechanics of the feet in relation to the rest of the body - his passion and values are kept alive to this day.

History of Scholl

The story begins in Chicago in 1899, when William at the age of 17 started working in a small shoe store, which specialized in comfortable footwear. He was so impressed by the number of people suffering from painful foot problems that he enrolled in medical school to study the human body and especially the anatomy and physiology of the feet.

At the age of 22, shortly after his medical qualification in 1904, he patented his first patent: the Foot-Eazer. It was a revolutionary product for its time - an insole that was placed on shoes to strengthen and support the arch of the foot. In 1907 he founded the Scholl Manufacturing Co. Inc.

Having like based on the science behind product development and evolution, in 1912 William Scholl founded the Illinois College of Chiropractic and Orthopedics, which soon became the most important educational institution in its field in the United States of America. It offered free lower extremity exams and also instituted the Annual National Foot Comfort Week.

In the 20's he created the first line of shoes specially designed to take care of the anatomy of the foot. A decade later Dr Scholl introduced graduated compression stockings to relieve swollen ankles and varicose veins.

And in the 40s he invented shoe soles, which quickly became one of the company's best-selling products.

In the 60s Scholl launched the Pescura range of anatomical beechwood sandals that accentuated the legs with every step. They quickly became an international hit, with celebrities such as models Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton wearing them - turning them into a symbol of style and comfort. Dr William Scholl died in 1968 aged 86.

Why Scholl

His life's purpose of "How to help people realize the importance of foot care to their health" was the legacy he left to his company. We celebrated Scholl's centenary with a new line of foot care products, but always with the same goal: to continue giving healthy and soft feet.

The story of Scholl continues, with the vision and passion of its founder still alive: to help people realize the importance of foot care for their health, and to help them by offering them the best care.
